Born about 1200, some six years before his monarch Henry III, in 1223 he paid the then princely sum of £500 "relief" to succeed to his father's lands. Early in1230 he sailed with the king's expedition for the invasion of France, but died in the same year and was buried at Nantes.

Nigel married Maud de Camvil but died without issue and was succeeded by his brother Roger.
